Where it all began...

 by Rebecca Scaglione, Author

The magic of words really came to life when I read to my daughter's classes K through 5 in the Silver Lake Elementary School library.  I knew by the written words on the pages and the way the stories were presented either lost the children to a daydream in the first few pages or captivated them to the last word.  Those six years of volunteer work proved to be the most valuable learning tool I needed to prepare me for what I was about to do.

And then came middle school, where my skills were no longer needed, but the desire to share a part of me became even stronger.  So I prayed.  And I asked God to use me, use my talents in a way that would glorify His name.  He gave me my first novel, "The Well".

The hardest part about writing a book for me is the ending.  But by God's design, He led me gracefully to the ending of "The Well", which was also the beginning of the sequel, "Rachel's Journey".   But the journey has not ended there.  I'm currently working on "Jack", the trilogy of the series, and my goal is to complete this before Christy enters her final year in high school.  I can't believe how many years have passed since it all began.

The most exciting part of this whole journey is not knowing where it will lead me next or how it will end.  God is the only One who knows that for sure.  For it is only by His grace that I have the wisdom to choose the right path to follow, the courage to take yet another step, and the assurance of never having to travel alone.

The path He has led me down this year is into the classrooms of young children, to speak to them about how God creatively works in our lives to accomplish His will, the power of true friendship, and how hope and faith will bring you through anything God allows in your life!

I am blessed to be able to take the hand of the Author of my life as He gently leads me down the path He has chosen for me, and I am grateful for those He has allowed to walk with me along my journey.

Enjoy the journey,

even when you walk through the valley.

It is where the soil is the richest.

It is where He wants you to grow.

I’ve been married to Joe for 20 smooth, swift years.  He is very supportive of anything I choose to pursue, including my writing or job decisions.  Team work is the success of our marriage and raising our daughter, Christy.  Balance is the key...what one may lack, the other provides.

Christy is a typical teenager, full of energy, curiosity, and hates to be bored. I can't believe she is driving and will soon be deciding which college to attend...a couple of big steps towards independence and adulthood.  What a wonderfully full life she leads...full of music, dance, and lots of friends.

She loves tackling something new (like snowboarding or playing the sax) and keeps at it until she succeeds.  She dreams of becoming an interior designer, although fashion design could be in her future also.

Christy was my inspiration for "Nicci" in The Well, and she graces the front cover of Rachel's Journey.

And of course, there is Cloe, Christy’s furry, feisty little sister. (Cloe doesn’t know she is a Bichon).

I’m not sure which one is sillier or moodier.   All I know is that they tease each other and are annoyed by each other (just like siblings), but adore each other just the same.

They enjoy hiking together and swimming, and their favorite time of year...summer!   Cloe would go snowboarding in the winter with Christy if she'd let her.  Too risky!  Can't find her in the snow!

   (The Well)   (Rachel's Journey)  (Jack)

You may be wondering if the saga will continue with Nicci and Rachel.  There is certainly a storyline left unaddressed...Jack's past!  Remember the haunting memories of Jack being chased by the evil one (his stepfather) when he was a little boy.  Well...the visions are coming back, only this time they are real!

Newly released....October 2007

Five things I've learned this past year:

1. God is who He says He is.

2. God can do what He says He can do.

3. I am who God says I am.

4. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

5. God's Word is alive and active in me!

MY FAVORITE VERSES:

Faith is being sure of what we hope for

and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1

I can do anything through Him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time

we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -

and this is not from yourselves.  It is a gift from God -

not by works, so that no one can boast.

For we are God's workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:8-10
